The Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control, chaired by Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman, on Thursday addressed the Islamabad Metro Bus Service Bill, 2026.
The bill aims to create an independent authority for the public transport system in the federal capital.
Representatives from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) expressed their opposition to the proposal, arguing that the civic body already manages a dedicated transport division, making a separate authority redundant.
The Ministry of Interior and CDA assured the Committee of their willingness to consider constructive enhancements regarding the Islamabad Metro Bus Service Bill 2026.
Following discussions, the Chairman postponed the Metro bill and instructed the mover, along with the CDA, Interior Ministry, and Law Ministry, to engage in consultations and present a unified agreement at the next meeting.
The Committee agreed on supporting The Pakistan Penal Code (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and also approved The Offence of Zina (Enforcement of Hudood) (Amendment) Bill, 2026 after thorough deliberations.
During the review of The Islamabad Real Estate (Regulation and Development) (Amendment) Bill, 2026, members expressed concerns regarding delays, despite its approval from both Houses.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry informed the Committee that the government is currently assessing overlaps in pertinent laws, and a meeting led by the Federal Law Minister has been arranged.
