Trump says no strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructures until April 6

Trump strikes at Iran

Donald Trump has said he will delay any potential military action targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure, extending the deadline by 10 days until April 6, 2026.

Pause on potential strikes

In his post at Truth Social, the US President said, “As per the Iranian Government’s request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time. Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media and others, they are going very well. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

The US president said the decision was made as talks with Iran were continuing.

He added that the pause followed what he described as a request from Tehran, although there has been no confirmation from Iranian officials.

Earlier this week, Mr Trump had indicated that a decision on possible strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities would be made within days. That timeline has now been pushed back.

Talks ‘going very well’

In a post on Truth Social, Mr Trump said negotiations were progressing positively.

“Talks are ongoing and… they are going very well,” he wrote, while criticising media reports that suggested otherwise.

However, Iranian authorities have not publicly commented on the state of the discussions or whether they agree with the US assessment.

US-Iran negotiations

The situation remains unclear, with limited details about the nature of the talks or what conditions may have led to the delay.

Analysts say such pauses are often used to allow diplomatic channels to continue, particularly in sensitive situations involving energy and nuclear issues.

Relations between Washington and Tehran have remained strained in recent years, with disagreements over nuclear activity, sanctions, and regional influence.

While the latest delay may ease immediate concerns of escalation, uncertainty remains over how long the pause will last and whether a longer-term agreement can be reached.
