Bushra Bibi receives eye check-up

Bushra Bibi, wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, underwent a medical check-up at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after complaining of pain in her right eye, jail sources said on Sunday.

Officials said Dr Muhammad Arif Khan, head of the ophthalmology department at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), examined her at around 2 pm on Saturday.

Jail sources reported that Bushra Bibi had been experiencing blurred vision, black spots, flashes in the dark, and headaches in her right eye for the past 11 days. Doctors diagnosed her with posterior vitreous detachment (PVD), along with myopia and astigmatism.

The doctor prescribed eye drops, medication, and glasses, and recommended a follow-up check-up in four weeks.

Imran Khan’s eye treatment

In late January, Imran Khan had also undergone a minor eye procedure, which was carried out after another examination at PIMS with his written consent, lasting around 20 minutes, according to Information Minister Ataullah Tarar.

Amid rising concerns over the deterioration of Imran Khan’s eyesight in custody, the Supreme Court took up the matter after receiving a report from his lawyer, Salman Safdar. Acting as amicus curiae, Safdar stated that Imran had lost 85% of vision in his right eye and was dissatisfied with the medical facilities at Adiala Jail. The report also mentioned that the former prime minister had requested urgent access to specialist doctors.

Earlier in March, Imran underwent another medical check-up at Adiala Jail. Following the examination, PIMS reported that his vision had shown significant improvement after receiving his second dose of an intravitreal anti-VEGF injection.
