Ceasefire restored in Gaza after Israel’s airstrikes

Israel's airstrikes

After Israel’s airstrikes, the ceasefire has been restored in Gaza.

After killing people in Gaza, Israel says that the ceasefire is back on.

The mediators’ contacts played a role in bringing it back into effect after a day of mass casualty attacks by Israeli forces.

Egypt, Turkiye, Qatar, and the United States are the main mediators involved in negotiations.

Discussions are now underway to establish a binding mechanism to address any future violations of the truce in Gaza.

On Sunday, the country launched airstrikes on Gaza, killing 42 Palestinians.

The overall death toll from Israel’s war on Gaza has risen to 68,159, with 170,203 wounded since October 7, 2023.

What was the reason behind this escalation?

Israel has accused Palestinian fighters of carrying out attacks on soldiers in Gaza’s south. However, Hamas said communication with its remaining units in Rafah has been cut off for months and “we are not responsible for any incidents occurring in those areas”.

It is pertinent to mention that Israel is pressing Hamas to return the remains of all 28 deceased captives, saying the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt will stay closed “until further notice”.

According to Palestine, Israel has also attacked a hospital.

For now, Palestinians fear the war might start again.

Israel also killed 11 members of a family on Friday.

According to some reports, Senior United States officials are heading to Israel this week, and this signals that US President Donald Trump is trying to keep the ceasefire with Hamas alive.
