Sindh announces public holiday on April 4

Are school holidays being extended in Punjab, Sindh

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on April 4, according to an announcement on Monday.

According to details, the holiday is being observed across Sindh on the occasion of the anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The government has issued an official notification regarding this.

Meanwhile, the district administration has announced a local holiday on April 1, 2026, on Wednesday, across all revenue limits of Sahiwal for the annual Urs celebrations of Hazrat Baba Muhammad Pannah.

According to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Sahiwal, Captain (R) Samiullah Farooq, the local holiday is intended to ensure full public participation in the Urs festivities.

However, the notification clarified that this local holiday will not affect the examination schedule of the education department.

All exams will be held as scheduled. Staff assigned to specific duties by any forum will continue to perform their responsibilities.

Earlier, the Punjab government had declared a local holiday on March 28 in Lahore for the annual Urs “Mela Chiraghan” of Sufi saint Shah Hussain, Madho Lal Hussain.

This holiday applied only to district level offices and their subordinate institutions.

School holidays extended until April 15?

The alleged notification circulating on social media claiming that schools and colleges in Sindh would remain closed until April 15 has been confirmed as false on Saturday.

Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah clarified that the notification is fake and contains no truth.

He further said that the document claimed that due to a smart lockdown and fuel shortage, all educational institutions in the province would extend holidays until April 15, while exams would continue on schedule.

The minister rejected these claims. He called the information completely fabricated and misleading.

Earlier, in Punjab, the Energy Department submitted key recommendations to the government due to the ongoing growing energy crisis.

The proposals included strict measures such as fuel rationing and potential restrictions on educational and commercial activities.
