The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has announced new school timings for public schools across the province.

According to an official notification, primary schools will now open at 7:30am and close at 1:35pm.

Focus on moral and co-curricular activities

The new schedule includes changes to morning assemblies.

Schools have been directed to incorporate moral training, student speeches and practical activities.

Arshad Ayub Khan said students will receive moral education through speeches on three days of the week, while skits will be arranged on the remaining days.

School administrations have also been instructed to organise a weekly “Bazm-e-Adab” session on the last working day of each week.

After these sessions, the final three periods will be set aside for staff meetings and updating school records.

Measures to address teacher shortages

The notification states that in cases where teachers are unavailable due to shortages or long-term leave, school heads and subject specialists will take over classes.

All district education officers have been directed to ensure the new timetable is followed in schools.

The move is part of broader efforts to improve both academic routines and student development activities in the province.

Public holiday on April 4

The government of Sindh has announced a public holiday on April 4 to mark the death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

An official notification was issued on Monday confirming the holiday across the province.

Separately, the district administration in Sahiwal has declared a local holiday on April 1 for the annual Urs of Hazrat Baba Muhammad Pannah.

According to a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Samiullah Farooq, the holiday aims to facilitate public participation in the religious event.

Authorities clarified that the local holiday in Sahiwal will not affect examination schedules.

All exams will be held as planned, and staff assigned to official duties will continue their responsibilities.

Last week, the government of Punjab had also announced a local holiday in Lahore on March 28.

The holiday marked the annual Urs, known as “Mela Chiraghan,” of Sufi saint Shah Hussain, also associated with Madho Lal Hussain.

Officials said that the holiday applied only to district-level offices and related institutions.
