Islamabad police have arrested five accused in the murder of the prominent businessman Aamir Safdar Awan in Islamabad the other day.

Aamir Safdar Awan, owner of Toyota Motors, Aabpara, was killed in a posh area of the capital city Islamabad during a robbery attempt at his farm house near Chak Shehzad, in the jurisdiction of Shahzad Town police station.

The police has launched an investigationinto the incident and have made progress by arresting five people believed to be involved in the cold blooded murder.

Out of the five arrested, three prime accused Mansoor, Umair and Atiqullah, aged between 20 and 21 have also been arrested. The arrest has been made on the basis of fingerprints recovered from the crime scene.

The accused have just been released from jail. The police have also recovered weapons from the accused

The police are still investigating the case based on the statements recorded from the victim’s wife and the security guard.

Afghan nationals involved in businessman’s murder

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has said Afghan nationals were also involved in the killing of a businessman during a robbery in Islamabad.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, he said the murder of trader leader Aamir Awan was carried out by the Mansoor Khan gang, known as the “bulletproof jacket gang”. He added that concerns of the trader community after the incident were justified.

He said the suspects involved in the murder were arrested within 24 hours, adding that the law and order situation in Islamabad is much improved.

The minister stated the gang belongs to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and claimed that even local police feared them.

Talal Chaudhry further said the federal interior minister has taken key decisions for Islamabad, adding that the capital will become Pakistan’s first smart city.

He maintained that there is no major case or murder incident in Islamabad that remains unsolved.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi said 17 teams were formed to investigate the case. He said police used modern technology to trace the suspects.

He added that the gang’s ringleader was arrested from Charsadda, and further investigation is under way.
