KARACHI : In an end to the long wait of Karachiites, the completion date of the much awaited greenline project has been announced.

As per details, the date was announced by the Federal government spokesperson for Sindh, Raja Khaleeq Ansari during his interview to a private media outlet.

He said that the work on Karachi’s long-delayed Green Line project will resume soon, bringing much-awaited relief to the city’s residents.

Khaleeq stated that a detailed meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s House, during which all aspects of the Green Line project were reviewed. He confirmed that the unfinished work identified by the local government will be completed promptly.

The spokesperson termed it “good news for citizens,” saying that although the project has faced a delay of about a month, it is now expected to be completed by September 2026.

Raja Khaleeq said that a new station will be built near Capri Cinema, Plaza, and Jama Cloth, whereas the project will end near Jama Cloth.

Reacting to the concerns raised by Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, he said that the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the greenline project had already been issued in 2017, long before the current mayor took office. Since the NOC carried no expiration date, it remains valid, he explained.

Ansari further announced that an ultra-modern station at Karachi Cantt will be inaugurated on October 31, describing it as a “state-of-the-art facility” that will give commuters an experience similar to an airport terminal.

The federal government spokesperson for Sindh added that the federal government is ready to assist in Karachi’s ongoing infrastructure and development projects, noting that only maintenance work is currently being carried out on the Lyari Expressway, which will continue to operate as usual.

In a separate development, the Karachi Traffic Police cautioned residents against a growing number of fake text messages claiming to be official traffic challans.

These messages, sent from personal mobile numbers, request that citizens pay fines through EasyPaisa.

According to the department, the SMS alerts are “misleading” and have “no connection with Karachi Traffic Police or any government department.”

Officials added that the police never send challan notifications via private phone numbers or direct people to unauthorised payment links.

The warning was issued after the police noticed several such fraudulent messages circulating in the city.

In a statement shared on the social media platform X, the force explained: “Karachi Traffic Police informs citizens that in recent days, citizens have been receiving false SMS messages from some miscreants requesting payment of traffic challans attributed to Easypaisa. These messages are fake, misleading and fraudulent.”
