Rassie van der Dussen, the South African star batter, has announced that he will be retiring from international cricket. This will bring the curtain down on his international career for the Proteas.
The news was shared by Rassie van der Dussen in a heartfelt statement on April 2.
He said the decision was made with both gratitude and pride after representing South Africa at the highest level.
He said it was his life’s greatest honour to wear the green jersey of South Africa. He further added that his journey was filled with sacrifice and it was worth every moment.
According to his retirement note the right hander batsman revealed that he grew up in a cricket loving household. He grew up alongside his brother carrying great respect for the game.
The fact that he carried his family name onto the international stage felt to him like a responsibility.
A tribute was also paid by the veteran batter to the institutions and people that shaped his career.
He thanked the domestic team Lions and their leadership. As they backed him over the years and supported him. They helped him lay the platform through which he rose to international cricket.
He also acknowledged Enoch Nkwe, the many managers and coaches who trained him and made him able to represent his country on an international level.
The message was ended by him by thanking his South African fans, mentors, coaches and friends. He said the connection he felt with the supporters will stay with him forever.
He mentioned hearing his nickname “Ma Thousand” from fans. He said he will never forget the unforgettable atmosphere of walking out in front of a packed crowd.
