Pakistani actor and former model Omer Shahzad has come under criticism from social media users after a video of him with his wife, model and influencer Shanzay Lodhi, during Umrah, went viral.
In February 2025, Omer Shahzad and Shanzay Lodhi got married in a simple and beautiful Nikah ceremony in Madinah.
The couple recently travelled again to perform Umrah. During their visit, they were seen spending time together at Masjid al Haram in Makkah.
A video circulating online shows the couple during Tawaf, where Omer Shahzad can be seen holding his wife, Shanzay’s hand, while she leans on his shoulder.
The video has sparked criticism on social media. While some netizens found it cute, other users expressed displeasure over their public display of affection at a sacred place.

Netizens react
One user commented, “Is this Umrah or a honeymoon? We don’t understand.” Another wrote that Masjid al Haram is a sacred place and not a location for ‘romance’.
Several users emphasised the need to respect the sanctity of holy sites, saying such behaviour is inappropriate in such places.
Some also criticised celebrities for ‘seeking attention and views even in religious settings’.
Others added that while love between a couple is understandable, expressions of romance should be kept private rather than displayed publicly during religious rituals.
Omer Shahzad is known as a talented television actor who first gained fame as a top fashion model before establishing himself in the drama industry.
His notable dramas include Woh Pagal Si, Be Reham, Bharas, and Mere Humsafar. Recently, fans also appreciated his performance in Jaan Se Pyara Juni.

In a similar incident of getting criticised over the display of affection with her own spouse, actress and host Fiza Ali has faced backlash.
On this Eid ul Fitr, Fiza Ali announced her third marriage by sharing a family photo shoot with her husband and daughter, Faraal, on Instagram.
Recently, a video shared by her friend from a park showed Fiza Ali spending time with her husband while her friend appeared to be ignored.
Some social media users found the video amusing and lightheartedly commented on it. While others took a harsher approach, calling it an attempt to gain attention.
