The Pakistan Cricket Board on Sunday approved an expression of interest (EOI) for the development of a stadium in Jeddah with cooperation of Saudi Arabia Cricket Federation (SACF).
The step aims to step up the partnership between two countries and promote the sport in the Kingdom.
Pakistan is a cricket powerhouse, and it has offered support in the construction of cricket stadiums in Saudi Arabia. This will help develop and promote the sport in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier in December 2024, during a visit, the PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met Saud bin Mishal Al-Saud his counterpart from the SACF.
The discussed cricketing ties between two nations. It was then when Mohsin Naqvi offered all possible cooperation in the construction of stadiums in Saudi Arabia.
The EOI’s approval was given during a meeting of the PCB’s Board of Governors in Lahore.
During the meeting important matters related to cricket were discussed.
The PCB said, “The Board approved an Expression of Interest (EOI) for cooperation with the Saudi Arabia Cricket Federation for the development of a cricket stadium in Jeddah.”
Cricket has been rising in popularity for Saudi Arabia for some previous years. Especially since the establishment of SACF in 2020.
Since then, the Saudi board has lined up a series of programs to promote the sport at home. National team for Saudi Arabia is also being prepared to compete with the world’s best in the future.
The sport was introduced in Saudi Arabia in the 1960s due to millions of Pakistani and Indian expatriates.
Soon after local clubs began to take shape in the country. In 20023 due to rising popularity in cricket the country decided to become a part of International Cricket Council.
In 2016 it was promoted to associate membership of the ICC.
