Why the silence on Gaza? Shehzad Roy asks Malala

Shehzad Roy asks Malala

Pakistani singer and activist Shehzad Roy asks Malala Yousafzai about her silence on genocide in Gaza.

In a podcast, Roy asked Malala why she had remained silent since 2023 when Israel started a new wave genocide in Gaza. To which she said that she has repeatedly said the word “genocide” in her tweets.

“I have been very consistent in my support. I demanded an immediate ceasefire”, she said, adding that she has been advocating for the rights of Palestinians since she was 16 and Israel should be held accountable.

She said that before the Nobel Prize, she received another award along with a cash prize, which she donated to Palestinian schools

“Even before 2023, my fund and I personally donated to schools in Palestine; in total, we have donated 30 crores to the schools there,” she said during the podcast.

She also urged everyone to speak openly about the Gaza genocide, adding that “people should support Palestinian activists who are living there and suffering.”

According to her, certain groups have a problem with her, and they spread rumours about her stance on Palestine.

Shehzad Roy asks Malala about producing a show with Hillary Clinton

Roy also asked Malala that why she produced a Broadway show with Hillary Clinton, who is a big supporter of Israel, and then clicked pictures with her.

In response, the 28-year-old activist said that she never posed for a picture with Clinton, saying that the pictures of them together are “photoshopped”.

She added that during the premiere of the show, she wore a ceasefire pin during her red carpet appearance.

She also clarified that she was an executive producer of the show, so she did not actually produce the show; she only supported it after the show completed its shoot.

“The real fight is not about whom I share the stage with; there’s no end to this kind of criticism. What matters is staying firm in your stance,” she tells Roy.

She added that she did not meet Clinton after the 2023 Gaza genocide.

It is pertinent to mention that Clinton also co-produced the Broadway show Suffs. After much criticism from social media. Malala reaffirmed her support for the people of Gaza.

In the podcast, Malala also discussed her marriage and issues in Pakistan, while Shehzad kept the conversation light.
