China offers to work with Russia to ease Middle East tensions

China has said it is ready to work with Russia at the UN Security Council to help reduce tensions in the Middle East, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in a phone call, a private media outlet reported on Sunday.

Wang said the key to solving navigation problems in the Strait of Hormuz is to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible. He added that China has always supported resolving conflicts through dialogue and negotiation.

The phone call came ahead of a UN Security Council vote next week on a Bahraini resolution to protect commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran. On Tuesday, he said, attacks could target power plants and bridges across the country if Iran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said Tehran could “face a hell-like situation” and claimed coordinated strikes on key infrastructure would be carried out simultaneously.

Trump has repeatedly warned Iran in recent days. Earlier, he said the country had just 48 hours to reach a deal, warning of severe consequences if no agreement is made. He also said failure could push Iran “back to the Stone Age.”

Tensions between the United States and Iran remain high, raising fears of further escalation in the region.
