markets not to be closed early in Punjab

Punjab government has rejected the proposal for early closure of markets as part of the energy saving proposals due to the regional situation.

Provincial governments had been asked to consult traders and seek a plan of action within a week to ensure the early closure of markets for energy and fuel conservation

The Punjab government has rejected a proposal to close markets early, deciding instead to keep markets open until 10pm across the province.

According to sources, recommendations presented to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz were not approved. Officials said traders cannot be put under further economic pressure, and the proposal to reduce business hours has been deferred for now.

Sources added that consultations with trader bodies and business representatives are ongoing, and a final decision will be made after further discussions.

Authorities have also directed strict implementation of the austerity policy across the province.
