Rainwater near Islamabad’s Khanna Pul disrupts traffic flow

Islamabad rainwater

Traffic flow was severely affected near Sanam Chowk, located close to Khanna Pul Islamabad, after rainwater accumulated on the road following recent rainfall. Poor drainage arrangements caused significant difficulties for commuters in the area.

Reports indicate that the drainage system was not good in the rain, and this led to a number of feet of water accumulating on the road and this caused traffic jam and long queues of cars at Sanam Chowk and on other roads adjacent to that.

Residents and commuters said they faced serious inconvenience while travelling through the area. Motorcyclists and pedestrians also encountered difficulties, while some vehicles reportedly broke down after being stranded in stagnant water.

Citizens have urged the concerned authorities to improve the drainage system in the area to prevent water accumulation during rainfall and ensure smooth traffic flow in the future.

Intermittent rainfall continues in the federal capital, while on the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, assistant commissioners remain present in the field, additional sanitation staff and de-watering pumps have been deployed to ensure drainage in low-lying areas.

The authorities are monitoring streams and coordinating with traffic police to maintain smooth traffic flow during the rain.
