On April 5, 2026, Dawn reported that ‘after increasing the cost of the Kutchery Chowk remodelling project from Rs14 billion to Rs19 billion, the deadline for completing the work has been extended from April 30 to the end of May.’
The article added that a senior official of the Punjab Communication and Works Department had told Dawn that the deadline for April 30 was delayed to mid of May. Adding that many portions of the work were still pending.
The article further claimed that the source said that after the rain, ‘it will take three days to start the work’.
According to it, the situation was such that though the contractor, Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), was trying hard to meet the deadline and work in double shifts. The weather condition was not favourable, the article added.

However, these claims have now been debunked and reported as false.
