A significant reduction in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices has been announced in a major relief for consumers burdened by high energy costs across Pakistan.
As per details, nationwide, the price of LPG has been reduced by Rs20 per kilogram. After the cut in Karachi LPG is now being sold at around Rs440 per kg providing much-needed relief to households affected by rising fuel prices.
Ali Haider, Convener of the FPCCI LPG Standing Committee, said after improved supply conditions the price reduction comes and he said that reopening of borders following the Iran ceasefire, as well as Eid and Nowruz holidays, helped restore LPG imports.
He said that through three border points in Balochistan around 7000 ton LPG have entered Pakistan and through Qasim Port an LPG shipment has also arrived, further stabilizing supply.
He said that Pakistan nearly relies 65 per cent of its consumption on imported LPG and from Iran 90 per cent of imports is coming and due to improved availability up to Rs50 LPG prices are expected to decrease more during the current week.
It is pertinent to mention that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority had officially announced the LPG price at Rs304 per kg. But market manipulation and profiteering had increased retail price Rs130 higher that has reached between Rs450 and Rs470 per KG. He added that after improving the supply a downward trend has begun in prices.
