Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and his Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, discussed the latest regional developments on Monday during a phone call, the Saudi Foreign Ministry informed.
The discussions further addressed the recent talks mediated by Pakistan between the United States (US) and Iran, the ministry added in a statement.

The phone call took place after the US and Iran held rare direct talks in Islamabad on Saturday, after Pakistan brokered a two week long ceasefire between the two.

The Islamabad talks were aimed at ending their current conflict. The war started after the US and Israel launched a joint offensive against Tehran on February 28.
The strikes prompted Iran to launch retaliatory attacks. The talks, however, ended without any agreement on Sunday. The Vice President of the US, JD Vance, revealed the update in a short media briefing.
He added Iran chose “not to accept our terms” at the talks, adding that the US needs to see a “fundamental commitment” from Tehran not to develop nuclear weapons.
He said that the US has clearly presented its position on which points it is possible to agree on. And on which issues it is not.
Further, he added that although a final agreement has not been reached yet, the talks are ongoing.
According to JD Vance, not reaching an agreement is more of a bad news for Iran than for the US.
The US Vice President appreciated Pakistan’s hosting and mediating role. And said that Pakistan has played an important facilitating role in holding the talks.
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Sunday that no one had expected the talks with the US to reach an agreement in one day.
“Naturally, from the beginning, we should not have expected to reach an agreement in a single session. No one had such an expectation,” ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said, as per the state broadcaster IRIB.
