The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has provided relief to residents of the historic Saidpur village by restraining the Capital Development Authority (CDA) from carrying out evictions or demolishing homes in the area.
According to a formal written order issued by Justice Inam Amin Minhas, the CDA has been directed not to demolish or seal the properties of the petitioners until the next hearing of the case.
The court also issued a stay order on CDA operations and sought responses from all concerned parties. The decision comes after residents of Saidpur approached the court, challenging eviction notices and expressing concerns over possible demolition activities. The ruling has eased tensions among the local population, who have been residing in the area for generations.
In a one-page order issued by Justice Inam Amin Minhas, the CDA has been strictly directed not to demolish or seal the petitioners’ properties until the next hearing of the case.
It is worth mentioning here that the residents of Saidpur had approached the court against eviction notices and fears of property damage by the CDA.
They argued that they have lived in the area for generations and that eviction without due legal process would be unjust. Following this court order, the CDA is no longer authorised to carry out any operations until the next hearing of the case.
On the other hand, the situation became tense during a CDA operation against illegal encroachments in Islamabad, as angry protesters reacted violently, creating chaos and damaging government property.
During the protest, the demonstrators set fire to two CDA vehicles, further escalating the situation. The protests, which began in response to the anti-encroachment operation, intensified as law enforcement agencies took steps to bring the situation under control.
