The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a fresh alert regarding expected weather conditions over the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the NEOC, current weather patterns remain consistent with forecasts issued three to four months earlier. The authority has also released a broader outlook reviewing expected weather conditions across the country for the April to June period.
Heavy rain accompanied by strong and gusty winds, as well as hailstorms, is expected in most parts of the country during the next 12 to 24 hours. Snowfall is also possible in the upper and mountainous regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir during this period.
Thunderstorms and snowstorms are likely in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Malakand, Kohistan, Mingora, Battagram, Haripur, Peshawar, and Mansehra.
Rain with gusty winds
Rain with gusty winds is also expected in Abbottabad, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan.
In Islamabad and various cities of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, and Mandi Bahauddin, rain accompanied by strong winds is expected over the next 12 to 24 hours.
Rain is also expected in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Astore, Diamer, Kharmang, Shigar, Ghizer, Nagar, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, Haveli, Poonch, Kotli, and Neelum Valley.
Similarly, rain with gusty winds is expected in several districts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Pishin, Barkhan, and Kohlu.
Strong winds, lightning, and hailstorms are expected across the country, which may damage weak structures, trees, standing crops, and power lines.
Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, drive carefully, and follow weather advisories. People should stay away from trees, weak structures, and electrical installations during storms and strong winds.
Tourists and travellers are advised to check the weather and road conditions before travelling to northern areas. The public can receive timely updates through the NDMA’s official app, “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert.”
The NDMA has directed all provincial and district authorities to remain on high alert to deal with possible weather conditions.
