All preparations have been completed for the largest marathon and cycling event in the country’s history, organised under the Sports Board of Punjab.
The Chief Minister Punjab National Marathon and Cycling Race 2026 will take place tomorrow, Sunday, with participation expected from more than 11,000 athletes and citizens across the province.
Provincial Minister for Sports Punjab, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, along with other provincial ministers, will attend the event as special guests, officials confirmed. The large-scale sporting event aims to promote fitness, inclusivity, and a healthy lifestyle across all segments of society.
21-kilometre marathon and cycling race to begin at 6:00 AM
The 21-kilometre marathon and cycling race will begin at 6:00 AM from Liberty Chowk. A 5-kilometre marathon and cycling race for women will also start from the same location.
In addition, a 2-kilometre family fun race and a 1-kilometre wheelchair race will also be part of the event. The Vice Chairman of the Sports Board of Punjab, Malik Salman, the Secretary of Sports Punjab Muhammad Ali, and DG Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi will also be present at the event.
According to the Youth Affairs and Sports Department of Punjab, all arrangements have been completed, and preparations have entered their final stage to ensure the success of the event.
DG Sports visits marathon and cycling race route
Director General of Sports, Punjab, Muhammad Tariq Qureshi, visited the marathon and cycling race route as well as the registration booth and conducted a detailed review of the arrangements. Deputy Director Chaudhry Zahoor Ahmed and other officials were also present on the occasion.
On this occasion, DG Sports Muhammad Tariq Qureshi stated that excellent arrangements are being made for this mega event under the leadership of Provincial Sports Minister Punjab, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar. He added that the Punjab Chief Minister National Marathon and Cycling Race is one of the biggest sporting events in the province.
He further said that the number of registrations for the marathon, cycling race, and family fun race has exceeded 11,000. All participating athletes will be provided with the best facilities.
He also mentioned that representatives of Rescue 1122, the traffic police, and other relevant institutions will perform their duties during the mega event to ensure maximum facilities and security for all participants.
