The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan has imposed an immediate ban on all government recruitments in view of the upcoming 2026 general elections, according to media reports.
An official circular issued by the Services, General Administration, and Cabinet Department, the government has enforced a complete ban on all types of recruitment in government departments under Section 320, Clause 2 of the Election Act 2017.
The move has been taken to ensure transparency in the electoral process during the upcoming general elections. According to the circular, the ban applies to all stages of recruitment, including the advertisement of new vacancies, written examinations, and interviews. It will remain in effect until the formation of the newly elected government. The circular further states that strict action will be taken under relevant laws against anyone found violating these instructions.
Meanwhile, complete details of the nomination papers submitted for the general elections to be held in Gilgit-Baltistan on June 7, 2026, have been revealed.
664 candidates submitted nomination papers from 24 constituencies
A total of 664 candidates have submitted nomination papers from 24 constituencies for the Gilgit-Baltistan elections. From Gilgit Constituency 1, 34 candidates have submitted their nomination papers; from Constituency 2, 58; and from Constituency 3, 32.
From Nagar, 38 candidates have filed papers in Constituency 1 and 30 in Constituency 2. In Hunza’s single constituency, 38 candidates will contest the elections.
In Skardu, 33 candidates will contest from Constituency 1, 23 from Constituency 2, 18 from Constituency 3, and 25 from Constituency 4. From Kharmang, 21 candidates have submitted nomination papers, while 19 candidates are in the race from the Shigar district.
From Ghanche, 15 candidates have filed papers in Constituency 1, 29 in Constituency 2, and 15 in Constituency 3. In Astore, 19 candidates will contest Constituency 1, while 57 will contest Constituency 2.
From Diamer, 29 candidates have filed nomination papers in Constituency 1, 15 in Constituency 2, 14 in Constituency 3, and 11 in Constituency 4. From Ghizer, 20 candidates have submitted papers in Constituency 1, 42 in Constituency 2, and 25 in Constituency 3.
Overall, Gilgit Constituency 2 has the highest number of candidates with 58, while Diamer Constituency 4 has the lowest with 11 candidates.
