All-rounder Hammad Azam of Hyderabad Kingsmen has criticised Mohammad Rizwan for his comment saying that his side Hyderabad Kingsmen did not deserve a place in the 2026 Pakistan Super League playoffs.
He called the remarks unfair and disappointing.
The comments of Rizwan came after Hyderabad Kingsmen sealed a dramatic playoff spot with a crushing 108-run win over Rawalpindiz in their final league match.
The Kingsmen smashed a massive 244 runs for 6 wickets. They then bowled Rawalpindiz out for 136 runs.
This win helped them qualify for the playoffs based on net run-rate.
Once the match was finished Rizwan suggested that Hyderabad had been fortunate to reach the next stage and said he thinks that the Kingsmen team did not deserve qualification.
Although he admitted that this was just his personal opinion.
After this statement Hammad Azam has responded strongly. He said that such comments were surprising especially considering Rizwan is an experienced captain.
He said that the comments of Rizwan’s press conference were very disappointing and should not have given such statements especially considering he has also served as the captain of Pakistan cricket team.
Hammad emphasised that one performance cannot be used to judge whether a team deserves to qualify.
After this Hammad pointed out the results of Rawalpindiz and said that Rizwan should focus on the results of his side before questioning whether another team should qualify in the playoffs.
Hammad also mentioned that in the first match with Rawalpindiz, Hyderabad bowled them out at 125 runs and in the second match they won by more than 100 runs. According to him these stats explain better which team deserve to qualify or not.
