The Pakistan Railways has hired private firm operators to run the commercial operations of five passenger trains.

As per the railway officials, an agreement of Rs10.75 billion has been signed between the Pakistan Railways and a private firm in a move to increase the annual revenue and to improve the passenger service.

The recent outsourcing of the five passenger trains to the private operators will help to boost the profit of the Pakistan Railways, said the officials.

They also added that the services and facilities that are being provided to the passengers will be enhanced through this step.

The trains that will be operated onwards by the private companies are Awam Express, Millat Express, Karakoram Express, Mianwali Passenger and Narowal Passenger.

These trains will now operate under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The officials of the railway argued that involving the private sector in the commercial operations will enhance the operational performances, service standards and passenger experience.

The railway authorities believe the new management structure will improve maintenance standards, enhance onboard facilities and deliver better customer service.
