US Department of Justice warns illegal immigrants against voting in federal elections

The United States (US) Department of Justice has given a firm warning to illegal immigrants over voting in the federal elections.

In a statement on social media platform X, the Justice Department shared, “This administration will not tolerate aliens who attempt to vote in our elections when they know they are not eligible.”

US Department of Justice sues New Jersey for pro-immigration laws

The development comes after the Department of Justice initiated legal action against New Jersey concerning state regulations that offer in-state tuition and financial aid to undocumented immigrants, stating that these laws unconstitutionally discriminate against US citizens.

As stated by the DOJ, which submitted the lawsuit in federal court in New Jersey on Thursday, the state regulations guarantee that US citizens do not receive the same reduced tuition rates, scholarships, or subsidies, foster incentives for illegal immigration, and provide benefits to undocumented immigrants that US citizens cannot access, all of which directly contradict federal law.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has previously pursued similar lawsuits concerning taxpayer benefits or preferential treatment afforded to illegal immigrants in states such as California, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and Virginia.

The lawsuits filed in Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Texas have led to permanent injunctions and declarations of unconstitutionality against laws that provided reduced tuition for illegal immigrants.

Assistant Attorney General Brett A. Shumate, representing the DOJ’s Civil Division, stated, “This Department of Justice will not tolerate American students being treated like second-class citizens in their own country.”
