Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds swept across several parts of Punjab, including Lahore, early Sunday morning, significantly lowering temperatures and providing relief from the intense heat, according to media reports.
In Lahore, rainfall was recorded in several areas, including Allama Iqbal Town, Sabzazar, Ichhra, Township, Model Town, Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, Jinnah Hospital, Thokar Niaz Baig, Johar Town, Canal Road, Harbanspura, and Tajpura. Other cities, including Kasur and Sheikhupura, also experienced showers.
The rain also made the weather pleasant in Islamabad, where the minimum temperature dropped to 18°C, while it is expected to rise to 28°C later on Sunday. Morning winds in the federal capital were recorded at 18 kilometres per hour.
After the rain, people felt a clear drop in temperature. This has made the weather cooler and more comfortable.
Meanwhile, hotter weather is expected in Karachi, where the Met Office forecasts temperatures between 38°C and 40°C today. The minimum temperature was recorded at 28°C on Sunday morning with humidity levels at 75 per cent and winds blowing at 15 kilometres per hour. The mercury could climb further to 41°C on Monday.
According to the Met Office, most parts of the country, particularly southern regions, are likely to experience hot and dry weather over the next 24 hours.
However, rain is expected in parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, northeastern Punjab and the Potohar region. Some areas in Kashmir, Potohar, and northeast Punjab may also receive hailstorms.
