YouTube has expanded its Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature to more users globally, allowing videos to continue playing in a small floating window while people use other apps on their phones.
Let us understand basically what this function is for.
The update was confirmed by Google, explaining that the feature lets users minimise the YouTube app without stopping video playback.
Under the latest changes, users outside the United States can now use PiP for long-form non-music videos on both Android and iOS devices, even without a premium subscription.
The company said Premium Lite subscribers will continue to have access to PiP for non-music content, while full Premium members can use the feature for both music and non-music videos.
When watching a video, users can swipe up or press the home button to leave the app. The video then continues playing in a smaller floating window on the screen.
The mini-player can be moved around the display while users open messaging apps, browse the internet or perform other tasks on their device.

How to turn PiP on or off?
Users who want to disable the feature can open the YouTube app and go to Settings, then Playback, where the Picture-in-Picture option can be switched off.
On Android devices, PiP can also be enabled through the phone’s settings menu by selecting Apps, then YouTube, followed by Advanced and Picture-in-Picture.
The floating player can be closed by tapping the window and pressing the “X” icon, or by dragging it to the bottom of the screen.
