Punjab CM Maryam inaugurates ‘Marka-e-Haq Square’

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Sunday inaugurated the newly renamed ‘Marka-e-Haq Square’ at the historic Kutchery Chowk in Rawalpindi as part of the Signal-Free Rawalpindi project.

The inauguration also marked a major milestone in the city’s infrastructure development, with authorities completing five underpasses, two overhead bridges, and pedestrian bridges in a record 179 days.

According to officials, the project was initially scheduled to be completed in 190 days but was finished 11 days ahead of deadline. Authorities have described it as Pakistan’s first fast-track and uniquely designed infrastructure project. During the ceremony, Kutchery Chowk was officially renamed ‘Marka-e-Haq Square’.

During the inauguration ceremony, CM Maryam unveiled the project and offered prayers for its success. She also visited the signal-free corridor, overhead bridge, and other completed sections of the project.

Provincial Minister Sohaib Ahmed Bharath, while giving a detailed briefing, said that more than 200,000 vehicles would be able to use the signal-free corridor daily. He added that the country’s first state-of-the-art modern-style pedestrian bridge had also been constructed at “Marka-e-Haq Square.”

Officials stated that two phases of the 25-kilometre signal-free corridor from Rawat to the motorway have been completed, while work on the third phase is expected to finish soon. Under the project, a total of nine underpasses and three flyovers will be constructed. Additional underpasses are also planned at Race Course, Charing Cross, and AFIC Chowk.

Speaking on the occasion, Maryam Nawaz said the signal-free corridor would transform the urban landscape of Rawalpindi and provide modern travel facilities to residents.
