Rain forecast for Upper Punjab, KP ahead of Eidul Azha

Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued its weather outlook for Eid-ul-Azha, forecasting rainfall in upper Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the next two days under the influence of the current weather system.

Speaking to a private media channel, Director of the Met Department Irfan Virk said that weather conditions in Lahore will remain pleasant for the next two days. However, he cautioned that temperatures are expected to rise again afterwards.

He added that rainfall is also likely in the upper and northeastern parts of Punjab within the next 24 to 48 hours, as the ongoing weather system continues to affect the region.

Regarding Karachi, he said that although the intense early-May heat is not being experienced at the moment, temperatures will remain relatively high, while generally fair weather is expected over the next two days.

On the outlook for Eid, he stated that once the current spell of rainfall ends, temperatures are likely to gradually increase, with a possibility of another rain system developing before Eid. However, he cautioned that a final forecast cannot yet be confirmed.

He further added that, according to the latest projections, heat intensity is expected to increase after the rain system passes, with hot conditions likely during the Eid days. Discussing the climate phenomenon El Niño, he explained that if it becomes active in the Pacific Ocean, rainfall in South Asian countries typically decreases slightly during the monsoon season.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast extremely hot and humid weather in the provincial capital Karachi for the next 24 hours.

According to the Met Office, sunny conditions will persist throughout the day, with the intensity of heat expected to increase due to strong sunlight.

At the time of observation, the temperature in the city was recorded at 30°C, while the maximum temperature is expected to range between 34°C and 36°C.

The department further stated that the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.6°C, with humidity levels at 75 per cent. Southwesterly winds are currently blowing at a speed of 12 kilometres per hour. The weather is expected to remain clear throughout the day, with no chances of rain.
