Sacrificial animal prices rise sharply ahead of Eidul Azha

As Eidul Azha approaches, traditional sacrificial animal markets across the country are witnessing a sharp increase in activity and setup operations. Traders have started establishing temporary cattle markets in major cities, including Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, Faisalabad and Karachi, while buyers are visiting the markets in search of sacrificial animals according to their budgets.

According to reports, the demand for livestock is increasing rapidly as Eid draws closer, leading to a noticeable rise in prices. Traders stated that animal prices are higher this year compared to last year due to increased costs of fodder, transportation and maintenance. This situation has further raised the financial burden of sacrifice for the middle class.

Prices of different sacrificial animals

Under the current market trend, a good-quality goat is being sold for between Rs60,000 and Rs250,000. Similarly, the price of cows ranges from Rs200,000 to Rs700,000, while bulls are being sold from Rs300,000 up to Rs1 million. Some large and premium-quality animals are being offered at even higher prices.

Citizens viewed that, amid rising inflation, fulfilling the religious obligation of sacrifice has become more difficult than ever. Many buyers complained that despite limited incomes, livestock prices continue to rise every year, making it increasingly difficult to purchase suitable animals.

On the other hand, traders argue that the rising costs of livestock farming, animal feed, transportation and care have significantly increased overall expenses, making higher prices unavoidable.

Meanwhile, alongside traditional livestock markets, online buying and selling platforms have also become active ahead of Eid, offering buyers access to animal photos, videos and detailed information. As Eid approaches, markets across the country are witnessing heavy activity, with traders expecting business to increase further in the coming days.
