Saudi Arabia announces transport plan for Hajj pilgrims

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has completed preparations to manage the Hajj movement and transportation of pilgrims during 2026. The plans mainly plans to focus on providing safe and organised travel for millions of pilgrims visiting the holy sites in Makkah and areas nearby.

Transport routes especially leading to the Jamarat site, the holy sites metro system, and transportation between the sacred locations are part of this movement.

According to the ministry, these movements were made in cooperation with different government authorities as part of a fully integrated operational system. Modern technology, advanced planning, and organised transport management systems are being used to improve crowd movement of pilgrims and their safety throughout their journey.

The authorities aim to make travel between the holy sites faster and more efficient, according to Saudi Press Agency.

The ministry also explained that field coordination on the ground will be strengthened, means all departments and teams involved in Hajj operations will work together under a single organised leadership system. Rapid response mechanisms will also be used to handle any emergency immediately and effectively.

In addition, pilgrims have been strongly advised to follow approved schedules and obey all official regulations. Cooperation from pilgrims, according to authorities is important for maintaining order, preventing overcrowding, and ensuring a safe Hajj experience for everyone. Instructions play a major role in organising the flow of people between the holy sites.

The ministry further stated that these measures are designed to create safety and order amongst people by combining modern technology, coordination, and transport planning.

On the other hand, new artificial intelligence technologies have been introduced by Saudi Arabia to facilitate travel procedures for Hajj pilgrims under the Makkah Route Initiative.

The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) in collaboration with the Kingdom’s Ministry of Interior has launched the advanced digital solutions as part of the efforts to improve services for pilgrims.

This will ensure a smoother travel experience.

The initiative is not a new one and it is in its 8th year. The initiative is being implemented through 17 pots in 10 countries. The information was revealed by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

They have developed a new smart mobile device that uses AI and data technologies. The device simplifies procedures.

The newly developed device will be extremely useful for the pilgrims with disabilities and the elderly pilgrims.
