Flight disruptions across UAE and other Middle Eastern countries have caused major problems for travellers. This is due to regional airspace restrictions and ongoing tensions in the region.
Many flights have been delayed, cancelled, or rescheduled, leaving passengers confused about the situation, refunds, and rebooking options.
According to the report by Gulf News, Dubai authorities have introduced a new complaint system to help passengers deal efficiently with airline and travel problems. Additionally, airlines are also updating their refund and rebooking policies to help affected travellers.
Passengers are advised to first check flight updates directly through official airline websites, apps, airport announcements, or customer support services, and are also advised not to rush to the airport unless they have received confirmation from the airline, because there are usually frequent changes to the flight schedules.
Passengers whose flights are cancelled are generally get a refund or free rebooking onto another flight.
However, the process may differ depending on the airline and the type of ticket. If a booking was made through a travel agent or third-party website, passengers usually need to contact the agent instead of the airline directly.
Moreover, airlines may have to provide meals after long delays, communication facilities after several hours, and hotel accommodation in stranded scenarios.
Travellers were warned not to cancel tickets themselves, because according to authorities if passengers voluntarily cancel a booking before the airline officially cancels the flight, they may lose their eligibility for free rebooking or full refunds.
Airlines like Emirates, Etihad, Air Arabia, Flydubai, Gulf Air, and Qatar Airways are offering flexible policies. These flexible policies include free date changes, travel vouchers, and refunds. In addition, many airlines are allowing passengers to move bookings without penalties within specific time limits.
Overall, the report advises travellers to regularly monitor official airline updates. Passengers should keep their contact details updated, save booking references, and allow extra time for refund processing to avoid any inconvenience during the large number of requests.
