Pop star Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million (£11 million) lawsuit against Samsung, accusing the company of using her image on TV packaging without permission.
Why Dua Lipa sues Samsung?
According to the lawsuit filed on Friday in a California court, Samsung used a photo of Dua Lipa’s face on television boxes sold in the United States. Her legal team said the company used her popularity and success to promote and sell its products.
Samsung denied the allegations and told the international media outlet that a third party had provided the image. The company said it used the photo only after receiving assurances that proper permission had been obtained.
What does the lawsuit mention?
The lawsuit includes claims of copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and misuse of Dua Lipa’s image and likeness.
Court documents said the photo was taken during the singer’s performance at the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival, and Dua Lipa owns the copyright to the image.
The singer reportedly discovered the issue in June 2025 after fans started sharing pictures of the TV boxes on social media, calling them the “Dua Lipa TV Box.”
The lawsuit also mentioned social media comments from fans, including one user who wrote, “I’d get that TV just because Dua is on it,” while another said, “If you need anything selling, just put a picture of Dua Lipa on it.”
Dua Lipa’s lawyers claimed Samsung ignored repeated requests to stop using the image.
The singer currently has endorsement deals with major brands, including Puma, Versace, and Yves Saint Laurent.
