What is the World Urban Forum?
The World Urban Forum is one of the world’s largest international gatherings focused on cities and urban development.
The forum was established in 2001 by the United Nations (UN) and organised by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UNHSP).
The forum brings together heads of government, urban planners, policymakers, academics and civil society representatives to discuss the challenges linked to rapid urbanisation.
The event regularly attracts more than 25,000 participants from over 180 countries and serves as a global platform for debating policies and sharing ideas on issues including housing, infrastructure, climate change and economic development.
According to organisers, the forum aims to raise awareness about sustainable urbanisation, encourage the exchange of knowledge and best practices, and strengthen cooperation between governments, businesses, community groups and international organisations.
The 13th session of the forum, known as WUF13, is scheduled to take place in Baku from May 17 to May 22, 2026.
The theme of this year’s event will be “Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities”, as the forum will be focusing on the global housing crisis and the role of adequate housing in promoting social inclusion, sustainability and economic growth.
Punjab CM will be participating in this three-day event to represent Pakistan, especially the province of Punjab.
