A senior United States congressman has praised Pakistan’s leadership for its role in ongoing peace negotiations involving the United States and Iran, describing the country’s contribution as vital to regional diplomacy and stability.
In a letter dated May 15, US Congressman Jack Bergman expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for what he called their “leadership” during the negotiations.
The letter was written by Bergman’s capacity as the Co-Chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus.
In the letter he acknowledged the efforts of Pakistan in facilitating the dialogue between Iran and US.
The letter stated “I write as Co-Chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus to express my sincere gratitude for the leadership you have both demonstrated in the ongoing peace negotiations between the United States and Iran.”
The Congressman of US said that the President of United States Donald Trump took steps in confronting terror networks and nuclear ambitions of Iran. He also emphasised that Pakistan’s partnership was indispensable to the process.
The letter praised the unique position of Pakistan and how it used that position to bring both the parties to the negotiating table.
According to Bergman the way that Pakistan acted is a demonstration of true statesmanship.
The strategic importance of relationship between Pakistan and United States is being further highlighted by the congressman.
He also noted that the Congress, White House and the US administration have publicly recognised the role of Islamabad in the diplomatic efforts.
Bergman wrote “On behalf of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus, thank you. You have our deep and lasting gratitude.”
He also said that he is interested in visiting Pakistan again in the future and that he will keep working to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
