KP govt announces early salary payment ahead of Eid ul Azha

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to release salaries to government employees before Eid ul Azha.

According to reports, the provincial government has directed authorities to begin salary disbursement from May 20 in order to facilitate employees ahead of Eid celebrations.

The Finance Adviser said the decision to release salaries in advance was taken to provide relief to government workers before the religious holiday.

It is worth mentioning that the moon of Zil Hajj was sighted in Pakistan recently, and Eid ul Azha is expected to be celebrated across the country on May 27 with religious enthusiasm.

Eid ul Azha 2026: leaves of local government staff cancelled

Ahead of Eid ul Azha 2026 holidays, the Punjab Local Government Department has issued special instructions to make sure of cleanliness, security, and proper arrangements across the province during the festive days.

According to the department, temporary cattle sale points across Punjab will be fully active by Sunday. In addition to this, strict action will be taken against the sale of sacrificial animals on roadsides.

The Suthra Punjab Authority and waste management companies will remain active throughout Eid ul Azha. Leaves of local government staff have been cancelled to make sure of smooth operations.

Citizens will also be provided with biodegradable waste bags on time for the proper disposal of animal waste. Awareness camps will also be set up in every union council to guide the public on cleanliness and safety measures during the Eid days.

The authorities have also said that the central and district level control rooms will continue to work during the holidays. People who are throwing animal waste on roads or into drains will also face fines.

Officials have further directed authorities to make sure parking, water, and other basic facilities at cattle sale points across the province.

Digital payments to be promoted

On Friday, the State Bank of Pakistan launched a nationwide campaign “Go Cashless” for Eid ul Azha 2026. The purpose of the campaign is to promote convenient and secure digital transactions in cattle markets across the country.

The initiative, according to the central bank was part of its broader strategy to reduce reliance on cash and accelerate the digitisation of Pakistan’s payment ecosystem.

Cattle markets witness massive commercial activity according to the SBP during Eid-ul-Azha. Most of the transactions in cattle markets are carried out in cash.
