The President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, while talking to the lawmakers at the White House today, said that the US “will end the war very quickly” with Iran.
US Senate takes step to control Iran war authority
In another development, the US Senate has voted to move forward with a measure that would limit President Donald Trump’s war powers over Iran.
The plan is expected to force President Trump to end the war in Iran. Or to get an approval from Congress to continue military action.
The vote passed 50 to 47 after some Republicans joined Democrats in supporting the move.
Senator Bill Cassidy was among the Republicans who changed their vote and backed the measure.
This is one of several attempts in Congress to control presidential war powers during the ongoing military campaign, which has now continued for three months, according to the reports.
Democrats have largely supported the move, reports say. However, most Republicans opposed it. One Democrat, Senator John Fetterman, voted with Republicans against the resolution.
The resolution will now move forward for further consideration in the US Senate.
‘Can attack Iran within next 2 to 3 days,’ Trump warns again
Before this, Donald Trump had said that Iran is eager to make a deal. He also warned that the US may launch another attack if no agreement is reached.
Speaking to reporters, President Trump said Iran still has a limited ability to respond. He said the US could carry out strikes in the next few days, possibly on Friday, Saturday, or early next week.
Trump said Iran would have to face a “big hit” and added that the situation would become clear soon.
He said he cannot say with certainty whether another attack will happen. But he warned that military action remains possible if talks fail.
Trump repeated that Iran cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons.
