How Mohammad Amir qualified to participate in IPL?

The UK government has reportedly issued Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir a UK passport, making him a British citizen.

As per the information, Amir applied for citizenship several years ago, in Britain. He has complied with all legalities and the waiting period, and has now been issued with a passport.

The left-hander, who played in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20s for Pakistan, is married to Nargis Khan who is also a British citizen.

Amir will now be able to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well due to his new citizenship status.

It’s noteworthy to mention Amir has declared his second retirement from international cricket last year.

Mohammad Amir born on April 13, 1992 is a famous Pakistani fast bowler. He played for the Pakistan National Cricket Team from 2009 to 2024.

In the Pakistan Super League, he plays for the Rawalpindiz which is the newest team addition in the tournament. 

He is a left-arm fast bowler known for his pace and swing. He was also the member of the Pakistani national team squad that won the ICC T20 World Cup of 2009 and ICC Champions Trophy of 2017.

Amir made his first class debut back in November 2008. By 2009 he had played his first International and Test match in July 2009. The first international match was in Sri Lanka and he was 17-years old at that time.

He then also played the ICC T20 World Cup of 2009 which was his first tournament and played a crucial role for Pakistan in the tournament.

Eight years after the 2009 World Cup in 2017 he also played a major role in the ICC Champions Trophy. His performance in the final resulted in Pakistan’s victory against India.

He took wickets of major hitters which included Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan.
