Amir, Faheem fined for abusive language in PSL clash

Fast bowler Mohammad Amir and all-rounder Faheem Ashraf have been fined for using abusive and inappropriate language during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match.

Rawalpindi’s Mohammad Amir and Islamabad United’s Faheem Ashraf have each been penalized 10% of their match fees for breaching the code of conduct in the 34th match of the tournament. Both players were found guilty of Level 1 offences in the match played at National Bank Stadium on Thursday.

Mohammad Amir was charged under Article 2.5, which relates to using language, gestures, or actions that may provoke a dismissed batsman.

Faheem Ashraf, on the other hand, was charged under Article 2.21, which concerns conduct that brings the game into disrepute. Both players admitted to the charges brought by on-field umpires Alex Wharf and Faisal Khan Afridi, after which match referee Sir Richard Richardson imposed the fines.

The incident occurred on the third ball of the 17th over of PSL 11, when wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan caught behind Faheem Ashraf off a slower bouncer from Amir. After taking the wicket, Amir aggressively gestured for Faheem Ashraf to leave the field.

In response, Faheem Ashraf became angry, used abusive language, and waved his bat. The situation was defused before it escalated further when Asif Afridi and Saad Masood intervened and separated the two players.

It is worth noting that the Rawalpindi team is currently at the bottom of the points table, with only one win in nine matches. Their final league match will be against Hyderabad Kingsmen on April 26.
