Pakistan Railways has started releasing long-overdue payments owed to its workforce, marking a significant step toward resolving years of financial backlog.
According to the Ministry of Railways’ media office, Rs 290 million has also been paid to railway contractors. In addition, Pakistan Railways has sent employee salary cheques to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in advance to ensure the timely disbursement of salaries.
Authorities have also announced a ban on filming and photography within Pakistan Railways premises. These measures are being described as significant progress toward financial discipline and administrative improvement within the organisation. Employees reportedly expressed satisfaction as payments were issued and raised slogans in support of the Federal Minister for Railways.
On the occasion, Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi said that Pakistan Railways is moving toward financial independence and that reforms aimed at strengthening the institution are underway.
He further stated that timely payments and financial stability reflect good governance in the railways and that these steps will help restore confidence in the operational system.
