The government have imposed Section 144 in Murree ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.

The authorities have reasoned it with concerns over public safety, traffic management and the expected arrival of tourists.

According to an official notification, the restrictions came into effect on Thursday and will remain in place until May 31, 2026.

The order applies to Mall Road and other areas of Murree, with officials saying the measures are intended to ensure the smooth movement of residents and visitors during the holiday period.

Tourist families will continue to be allowed access to Mall Road, one of the town’s most popular attractions, during Eid holidays.

Under the restrictions, acts of hooliganism, public disorder and the display or possession of firearms and fireworks have been prohibited.

The police said that the measures were introduced to prevent untoward incidents and reduce the risk of traffic congestion as large numbers of tourists are expected to visit the hill station during the Eid break.

Security personnel and law enforcement agencies have been directed to enforce the restrictions and maintain order in accordance with Section 144.

Separately, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province for seven days from May 27 to June 02 as part of wider arrangements for Eid-ul-Adha.

Authorities said the province-wide restrictions were aimed at addressing public safety, environmental concerns and cleanliness issues during the festive period.
