Commissioner Karachi reviews Fire Safety Audit progress to prevent future incidents

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi led a meeting with senior officials from various departments to assess the progress of the Fire Safety Audit for necessary buildings.

During the meeting, the Commissioner decided to broaden the survey to include commercial buildings, shopping centers, and large public structures.

He emphasised that the relevant departments must actively participate and ensure the fire safety audit is completed quickly to avoid fire incidents and improve rescue operations in Karachi.

The Sub-Divisional Fire Safety Audit Committees, formed under the guidance of Assistant Commissioners and established by Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Asif Hyder, are continuing their assessments of commercial buildings, shopping centers, and large public facilities.

Key decisions were made to guarantee that all commercial buildings and shopping centers adopt the necessary safety measures and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Mobile app to be created for fire safety info

As per the latest updates, 800 buildings have been surveyed to date.

Notices have been sent to those that have not complied with the safety SOPs, urging them to meet the requirements and ensure proper safety measures are in place according to the SOPs.

In this regard, the meeting resolved to create a mobile application that will provide information and details about fire safety measures in commercial buildings, shopping centers, and large public buildings in Karachi.

All departments involved in disaster management and fire safety will be included in the app.

In the event of an emergency or fire, the relevant rescue agencies will have access to details of the safety arrangements and facilities on the dashboard to aid in rescue operations.
