Several key proposals are set to dominate discussions at the upcoming International Cricket Council Board meeting, with major changes to the laws of cricket under serious consideration.
According to a cricket website, the ICC is reviewing a proposal that would allow both a red ball and a pink ball to be used in the same Test match, a move aimed at addressing visibility issues and weather-related interruptions in red-ball cricket.
The proposed rule changes are expected to be presented for approval during the ICC board meeting scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad on May 30.
The website reported that the use of a pink ball in Test cricket is being considered in cases of bad weather, provided both teams agree to the change. However, the details of switching from a red ball to a pink ball during a match have not yet been finalised.
The ICC is also considering allowing head coaches to enter the field during drinks breaks in One Day International (ODI) cricket. Currently, only substitute players are permitted on the field during such breaks. In ODI cricket, there are two drinks breaks per innings, while in T20 cricket, head coaches are already allowed to enter the field and consult with players during water breaks.
In addition, a proposal to reduce the innings break in T20 cricket from 20 minutes to 15 minutes is also under discussion. The ICC has further proposed giving on-field umpires access to Hawkeye data to monitor and review bowlers’ actions.
According to the cricket website, these proposed changes were discussed online during the ICC Chief Executives’ Committee meetings held on Thursday.
