Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan will soon work with China to push forward the region’s development and economic progress.
Speaking at the Pakistan-China Business-to-Business Forum in Hangzhou to mark 75 years of friendship, Sharif said ties between the two countries are “deeper than the ocean, higher than the Himalayas, and now touching the skies.”
He praised Chinese President Xi Jinping for turning China into a global economic and military power. He called Hangzhou a clear example of Xi’s vision and leadership.
Sharif said 30% of the memoranda of understanding signed between Pakistan and China have already been converted into agreements worth billions of dollars.
He said Pakistan is training its youth in IT and helping them get international certifications. He added that agriculture, information technology, economic zones, and mines and minerals are the four main areas of cooperation with China.
Sharif urged both sides to quickly turn MoUs into real projects. He invited foreign investors to explore Pakistan’s large mineral reserves and other investment opportunities.
“Pakistan does not need loans; it needs investment and expertise,” he said. He stressed that modern seeds, machinery, and advanced farming methods are key to boosting farm productivity.
Sharif also announced plans to support small businesses in rural areas and increase value addition in industries.
He said investors in special economic zones will get one-window services and “red carpet treatment.” He added that authorities are building a world-class special economic zone on 6,000 acres in Karachi.
