The prices of milk and yogurt have increased in the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Peshawar.

The district administration in Peshawar has increased the official prices of milk and yogurt across the city, adding to household expenses ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Under the revised rates, buffalo milk will now be sold at Rs260 per litre, while cow milk has been fixed at Rs240 per litre. The official price of yogurt has been set at Rs280 per kilogram.

Authorities have directed dairy shops and milk sellers to display the updated price lists prominently at their outlets so that customers can easily verify the approved rates.

Officials said the move comes amid rising costs in the dairy sector, including higher transportation expenses, increased animal feed prices and the broader impact of inflation.

Similar increases in dairy prices have been reported in several other cities in recent months as businesses face growing operating costs.

The latest adjustment has raised concerns among consumers in Peshawar, many of whom say the increase will place additional pressure on household budgets at a time when spending typically rises before the Eid holidays.

The district administration has warned shopkeepers against charging above the approved rates, saying action will be taken against anyone found violating the official price list.

Authorities have also encouraged residents to report cases of overcharging or non-compliance, as officials continue efforts to enforce government-set prices in local markets.

The rising cost of essential food items remains a concern for many households across Pakistan, with consumers calling for stronger monitoring of markets and stricter enforcement of official rates.
