Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has proposed key reforms aimed at improving the declining standard of Test cricket in Pakistan, stressing the need to support specialist red-ball cricketers financially.
In a statement shared on the social media platform ‘X,’ Malik said the Pakistan cricket system must introduce more attractive contracts for players dedicated to red-ball cricket.
According to him, better financial incentives would encourage players to remain committed to first-class cricket instead of shifting their focus toward franchise leagues.
Malik emphasised that specialist players often struggle to balance financial stability with the demands of longer-format cricket.
He added that providing stronger financial security would motivate players to participate in at least five first-class matches regularly. He added that if red-ball specialists are given better financial security, they will be motivated to play at least five first-class matches and will not feel pressured to alter their natural style of play.
