Islamabad cricket stadium project enters planning phase under G2G model

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to hire a government consulting firm on a government-to-government (G2G) basis for the construction of a state-of-the-art stadium near Sector D-12 in Islamabad, instead of engaging a private consultant, according to media reports.

The decision was formally approved by the CDA Board, paving the way for the appointment of the government consultant firm for the mega sports project.

Both firms that submitted bids for the stadium project have presented their designs, and the Design Committee is currently reviewing and refining them. The estimated cost of constructing the cricket stadium is Rs 11.44 billion. After the design is approved, financial bids will be invited from the two qualified construction companies.

Two joint ventures have qualified for the project. The first bid was submitted by Lemark Construction, Concrete, and BK Consultant in a joint venture, while the second bid was submitted by BuzzZed KBEA and Habib Construction in a joint venture.

In the first phase, the cricket stadium will be constructed on 48 acres of land and will have a seating capacity of 35,000 to 40,000 spectators. The Olympic Village will be developed in the second phase.

CDA issues tender for construction of a modern cricket stadium

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) had issued a tender in January 2026 for the construction of a modern cricket stadium in Islamabad.

According to the tender notice, the new cricket stadium will be built near Sector D-12, Islamabad, and bids have been invited through the e-bidding process.

The CDA had made a bid security of Rs120 million mandatory for interested firms, while February 16 has been set as the deadline for submission of bids. The project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model.

The construction of the new cricket stadium is being seen as a significant step towards promoting sports in the federal capital. The facility is expected to help Islamabad host not only national but also international-level cricket events in the future.
