Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has praised CDF Field Marshal Asim Munir’s role in US-Iran negotiations.

Hegseth made the remarks at the 2026 Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.

“The final question was about India-Pakistan, and I mentioned India here, but I very easily could have mentioned Pakistan and the role that the field marshal and the prime minister are playing in peace negotiations,” he said.

“I think an unexpected development and a true friendship developing there, which I think is important,” Hegseth continued.

“And you saw that in the ability of the president to come together on brokering a peace between India and Pakistan, two nuclear-capable countries.”

Earlier, the CBS News highlighted the international recognition of Field Marshal Asim Munir for his mediation efforts in reducing tensions between the US and Iran.

According to the report, the Pakistani government and Field Marshal Asim Munir have played an important role in narrowing differences and promoting dialogue during sensitive regional developments.

CBS News stated that the coordination and harmony between Pakistan’s political and military leadership remained a key factor in the mediation process and diplomatic engagement.

The report also mentioned that United States President Donald Trump had previously referred to Asim Munir as “my favourite field marshal.”

Analysts believe the reported recognition reflects Pakistan’s growing diplomatic and strategic role in regional and international affairs.
