The Rawalpindi Traffic Police has prepared an elaborate traffic management plan for the Pakistan-Australia cricket match to ensure proper traffic management and to make it convenient for the cricket fans to reach the stadium.
The traffic police said it will deploy over 328 officers and personnel throughout the city during the match.
A special traffic plan has also been designed to ensure minimal disruption and vehicle movement on alternative routes.
During the transit of the participating teams, traffic will be rerouted to alternate routes for as short a time as possible, officials said.
The road from Islamabad to Rawalpindi will be diverted to Faizabad and Expressway as necessary.
Likewise, the traffic between Rawalpindi and Islamabad will be diverted, gradually, from three specified points in order to decongest the area.
Stadium Road from 9th Avenue Chowk to Double Road will be totally closed both ways during the match as part of the security and traffic arrangements.
Faizabad and IJP Roads will be provided as alternate routes to commuters travelling to Rawalpindi from Islamabad.
Similarly, drivers coming towards Islamabad from 9th Avenue will be rerouted via Faizabad.
Three separate parking areas have been set up to make the match accessible for fans.
Authorities from the traffic police have appealed to cricket enthusiasts to adhere to traffic rules and park at the designated areas to avoid hassles.
Full information on traffic and road closures will be disseminated on social media platforms and radio stations, according to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam.
He highlighted that citizens’ participation is key to the success of the traffic plan and traffic police have taken all measures to ensure that traffic flows without hindrance in the city during the event.
