Khawaja Asif criticises LESCO over Rs80,000 transformer repair fee

India has lost diplomatic influence under Modi’s leadership Khawaja Asif

What began as a routine transformer repair in a village has evolved into a controversy after Defence Minister Khawaja Asif alleged that officials of Lahore Electric Supply Company received Rs80,000 in cash for the repair without issuing any official receipt.

The minister’s allegations have sparked widespread discussion, with consumers sharing similar concerns and experiences regarding electricity service issues.

According to Khawaja Asif, a village transformer was damaged after catching fire. While the transformer was eventually repaired, he claims that LESCO personnel carried out the work only after receiving Rs80,000 collected by villagers through community contributions. He alleged that the payment was made in cash and that no receipt or official record of the transaction was provided.

The minister further stated that when questions were later raised about the payment, LESCO denied receiving the money. However, villagers reportedly maintain that the cash was handed over and insist that the payment was made as part of the repair process.

Khawaja Asif described the incident as more than an isolated dispute, arguing that it highlights broader concerns about transparency and accountability in public service delivery. He suggested that if such issues can arise despite the involvement of a federal minister, ordinary citizens may face even greater challenges when seeking essential services.

Calling for a formal inquiry, the defence minister urged authorities to investigate the matter and take action against anyone found responsible. His remarks have gained significant attention on social media, where concerns about power sector management and alleged unofficial payments continue to fuel public debate.
